Abstract

African transport market has been actively developing in recent decades. The most active import growth of different means of transportation was marked in South Africa. This article presents the analysis of the collected set of quantitative and systematized indicators, which reflect dynamics of South African import of transport engineering products for the period from 2014 to 2018. The aggregated statistical database of the International trade Centre (ITC) was selected as the main source of information.

According to the data collected, the detailed list of key exporters of automobile and railway vehicles, aircraft, vessels and associated transport equipment for the Republic of South Africa has been compiled. The article describes the competition of leading players in the South African transport market. Moreover, it reflects reasons, driving forces and motives which have led that actors to their top position. The paper also presents the scenario of South African imports of transport engineering products development and the prospects of old and new international suppliers on RSA market.

It was concluded that the main RSA import of automobile vehicles came from the European Union members. Products of Chinese, North and South American railway industry dominate on the South African market. Asia, Europe and North America were the main partners of RSA in terms of procurement of maritime transport. Companies from the United States was the main supplier of aviation industry products for the Republic of South Africa.
