Abstract
The article covers the history of Chekhov adaptations in the Hungarian theater over 20th and early 21st century and offers an overview of major tendencies in Chekhov theatrical interpretations. Chekhov becomes and important author for the Hungarian theater after 1945; since then stage versions of his plays have always reflected certain trends and tendencies in Hungarian public life.
