Abstract
The article discusses the concept of «musical» poetry in XIX century in projection on the aesthetics of Russian Symbolists that have transposed the theory of lyric poetry from the area of «pure art» to the creative work, creative life. Meanwhile, the study of poetry of «senior» and «junior» symbolists shows that there are contradiction between theory and practice, that are expressed through sound organization, intonation system, metro-rhythmic structure, genre and compositional forms. Symbolists search for «music» in poetry at the turn of XIX-XX centuries don’t lead to «musicality», but they lead to grand versification reform.
