The article examines processes of dialect word formation of the lexico-semantic group «Name of Pets» on the material of «The dictionary of the Vologda dialects», the main models of word formation characteristic of this group are defined. The involvement of names of pets into processes of dialect word formation allows to understand what signs of these animals turn out the most essential to dialect language consciousness that allows to study better attitude of the Russian people and gives the chance to reconstruct important fragments of a language picture of the world of the North Russian peasant through a prism of dialect word formation.
