- Abstract
- Based on data from a number of national surveys, the author describes changes in attitudes to the poor and the dynamics of their number in Russian society in the period 2003-2013. It is shown that Russian society has begun to stigmatize the poor, and their share in the population, depending on the approaches used to conceptualize the phenomenon of poverty, ranges from 13 to 40%. The final conclusion is that the process of turning the poor as the lower segment of Russian society into the socially excluded, the “periphery” has already passed the point of no return.
