Abstract
Memorial practices have found a place in the sociological sub-discipline specializing in the study of memory, the foundations of which were laid by E. Durkheim. The last two decades have been marked by the appearance of works that develop his ideas in terms of developing a typology of memorial practices. Typological schemes that have become widespread in Western sociological literature are supplemented by a new one based on the study of the historical experience of the Italian anti-fascist Resistance movement during the second world war. A new element of the typology is the so-called “conflict” type of memorial practices, which is inevitable in relations with the “difficult” past, which still brings discord to the public life of Italy.
