- Abstract
- Harold Garfinkel, founder of ethnomethodology, died on April 21, 2011. at home from acute heart failure. A major sociologist of the 20th century, his contribution to various fields of sociology will undoubtedly be felt for many years to come. This article highlights the origin of the concept of "ethnomethodology" and briefly examines the relationship between ethnomethodology and symbolic interactionism. In addition, a bibliographic review of the works of G. Garfinkel is given, some areas of great influence of his works are listed, and, finally, the significance of the sociologist's legacy is briefly considered.
