Abstract
Article is based on the results of a nationwide sociological survey «Twenty years of reforms through the eyes of Russians» conducted by the Institute of Sociology RAS using a representative sample in all territorial-economic districts of the country as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg. 1750 respondents aged 18 or older representing 11 social groups of population were questioned. The survey was conducted in 58 settlements in proportion to the population of megalopolises, regional centers, district towns and villages. At the same time the results of a survey «New Russia: Ten years of reforms» conducted by the Institute of Sociology in 2001 were used. Since both surveys were conducted using sample models of the same kind and a number of stereotyped questions (indicators) the author makes comparative analysis disclosing not only the present state of mass consciousness, but also the tendencies of its development as well as the peculiarities of its manifestation at the different stages of the reforms.
