- Abstract
- For D. Hume the idea of primary nature of sensations in their relation to ideas is of great importance: one can speak only of influence of the former on the latter, but not the other way. Transition from sensations and perceptions to ideas is a logical riddle which, however, it is not necessary to solve: it is quite enough to be convinced in the very fact of such a transition by experience, Hume supposes. In modern terms, sense organs, in addition to many other factors, create a context, which is not scientific knowledge by itself, but which does generate this knowledge. For contemporary philosophy this transition is a riddle too, but unlike Hume times today it is one of the main problems craving for some logical understanding. This understanding is based first of all on the thesis that the context is created not arbitrarily, but under influence of ideas.
