- Abstract
- The symbolic capital of a territory may be expressed as a credit of trust towards the territory, which is grounded both in the images of the territory, and in the way the information about this territory is conceived and comprehended through the prism of values of the conceiving person. Local myths and cultural norms of the place where such a person lives contribute to the shaping of symbolic capital of a town. Therefore, depending on the stance and attitudes of the person, the image of the same town may be loaded with different kinds of symbolic capital. The specific environment of the Arctic exerts a particular influence on the symbolic capital of towns in the region, and this is reflected in specific choices and preferences for migration places. The article discusses choices for migration places that are made by schoolchildren in Norilsk and Dudinka. The symbolic capital of St. Petersburg as it appears from the perspective of young Norilsk residents is further considered as a case in point.
