- Abstract
- The article examines the issue of formation and modes of existence of novel phenomena in the public life and festive culture of the Tatar living in the European part of Russia. The author focuses on a number of well-known archaeological sites of the Volga Bulgar period in the West Kama region of Tatarstan. She analyzes the tradition of visiting the sacred sites, which was characteristic of most of the Turkish/Muslim world and is now regenerated through the process of rethinking certain phenomena. This process, the author notes, is further accompanied by spontaneous Muslim rite reconstruction.
