- Abstract
- The article characterises the work and pedagogical activity of one of the founders of the Slavic studies as a scholarly discipline in Russia. It briefl y describes his biography. Due to his discoveries of earlier unknown sources of the Old-Russian written language, it was established, that the fi rst Slavic alphabet was Glagolitic, while the Cyrillic one appeared later.
