Abstract
M.N. Kharnzin’s works concerning the juridical life of Russian empire’s peoples and the Don Cossacks history and ethnography, were based on the field materials and archival documents which he collected during his personal trips and expeditions, when he worked as a secretary of Ethnographic Department of the Imperial Society of Amateurs of Natural Sciences, Archeology and Ethnography. Kharizin bolstered himself with concepts of the Moscow Slavophiles with whom he kept up friendly relations.
