Abstract
The article studies the functions of citations and allusions in "Memoirs" by Comte Bussy-Rabutin, a prominent courtier and writer of the second half of the 17th century. The sources of allusions are traced to ancient, medieval and contemporary literature, thus revealing Bussy-Rabuten's taste in literature and preferences. The paper has an inference that among various literary trends, which influenced his work, the most important were the contemporary French classical drama, the gallant and burlesque poetry and prose.
