Abstract
On May 19, 2017 at the Institute for the U.S. and Canadian Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences the 7th scientific conference called the Arbatov Readings was held. It became traditional in ISKRAN and received its name in commemoration of the Institute founder and architect of the Russian scientific school of American studies - Academician Georgiy Arkadievich Arbatov. This year the conference was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of ISCRAN. Its agenda consisted of two meetings. The first: ISKRAN - half a century of success -recalled the memorable events of the Institute's history. In the frame of the second meeting topics of American studies, as well as the first steps of the Donald Trump administration in economic, domestic, foreign and military policy were discussed. The conference was attended by the founding fathers of the Institute, those who spent a lifetime working in ISKRAN and devoted all these years to the American studies, as well as representatives of the younger generation of scientists who came to the Institute in the new millennium. Among the invitees were long-time colleagues, friends and associates of the Institute from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the expert community, as well as former fellows of ISKRAN who have maintained close contacts with the Institute's team for many years. Thus, the following speakers took part at the first meeting: IVANOV Igor Ser-geevich, - a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences; a former Minister of foreign affairs of RF, now President of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs; ARBATOV Aleksei Georgievich, - academician, Head of the International Security Centre of IMEMO named after E.M. Primakov; LUKIN Vladimir Petrovich, - Doctor of Sciences (History), Deputy chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RF; VOITOLOVSKY Fyodor Genrikhovich, - a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, acting Director of IMEMO of the RAS.
